Primary Product |
Limestone aggregate is a non-renewable
primary product for which there are currently no alternatives.
The quarry sector is key to the country's modernisation
process. It is the driving force behind construction, and
in turn is one of the most reliable indices to indicate
that the economy, and hence quality of life, is picking
up.

Production |
ASECABI produces
10 million tonnes of limestone aggregate every year. Our companies
make up 50% of the total output in the Basque Country, with
a turnover in excess of €40 million. During the last business
year we were the suppliers for works of great social interest,
such as the recently inaugurated Corredor del Txorierri, the
Port of Bilbao (the extension of which required around 300,000
tonnes of aggregate), the Exhibition Hall at Barakaldo and the
Bay of Biscay. |

Vizcaya |
Consumption in Vizcaya
stands at 9.84 tonnes per inhabitant per year, a figure which,
in any case, is lower than the average consumed in the State
(10.60%). ASECABI holds regular meetings with representatives
of the Department of Industry of the Basque Regional Government
in order to allow the Administration to restructure the sector,
hence avoiding the risk of a possible shortage of supply and
guaranteeing the demand for primary products as generated by
large-scale works. |

|
Staff
|
ASECABI directly
employs 400 people, plus an additional indirect 1,200 employees.
Likewise, we can state that thousands of workers in other sectors
feel the effects of induced employment. |
